If a picture paints 1,000 words, home come you can't draw this sentence? | Its a visual age they say. No one ever reads the copy, they say. Tripe. In fact, it's tripe with gravy and dumplings. Because good writing will always be read - whether it's a book, a magazine or an ad. It's up to me as a writer to make it worth reading. Besides, if its such a visual world, why is the newest, most commonly-used medium based on words - how mny txt msgs hv u hd l8ly? Theres e-mail, too: another well-used written medium. (Though very rarely well-written.) And if no one reads any more, how come the Harry Potter books - and a childrens book, at that - have sold over 2.5 billion copies? No, theres nothing wrong with writing that a good writer cant solve. And there are some things that no art director, no matter how good, can create a visual for. Just ask all those direct mail agencies making thumping great profits from writing letters. Because nothing beats a well-written piece of copy, crafted with the same care and attention that you give to your beautiful concepts. | |||
